Infants

  • Place baby on their back on a firm surface and kneel down at the baby's feet or you can put the baby on your lap facing away from you.
  • Place middle and index finger of both of your hands on the baby's upper abdomen. (below the ribcage and above the navel)
  • Push in fast with upward thrusts gently.
  • Repeat until the object is out of the baby's airway.

 

Children

  • Stand behind the child with your arms wrapped around their waist, make a fist with one hand and place the thumb side of the hand to the child's body between the ribs and the waistline.
  • Wrap your other arm around the child and grab your fist, keeping your arms off the child's ribcage and give four quick inward and upward thrusts.
  • Repeat until the object is out of the child's airway.
