CPR

CPR Stands for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.

  • C- Cardiac (Heart)
  • P- Pulmonary (Lungs)
  • R- Resuscitation (To Recover)

The three basic parts of CPR are easily remembered as "ABC".

  • A - Airway
  • B - Breathing
  • C - Circulation

CPR For Infants 

  •  Shout and Tap - Shout and Tap the infant on the shoulder, if no response than lay infant on the back.
  • Open the airway - to open the airway tilt the head back by lifting the chin.
  • Give 2 gentle breaths - Give 2 small breaths if the baby is not breathing, by covering the babies mouth and nose with your mouth. Each breath should be 1 second long and the chest should rise with each breath.
  • Give 30 compressions - Using 2 to 3 fingers in the center of the chest just below the nipples, give 30 gentle chest compressions at the rate of 100/minute.
  • Repeat - Repeat with 2 breaths and 30 chest compressions, if the baby is still not breathing after 2 minutes call 911 and continue the 2 breaths and 30 chest compressions.

  CPR For Children

  • If the child is not breathing position the child on their back and using the head tilt/chin lift technique open their airway by lifting the chin.
  • Pinch the nose or put your mouth over the child's mouth and nose, than give 2 breaths.
  • Check the child's carotid artery for a pulse by placing two finger tips and applying slight pressure for 5-10 seconds.
  • If no pulse than place two fingers at the sternum and than put your heel of your hand on top of your two fingersand start compressions. (1 hand, 1 inch)
  • Do 5 compressions and 1 breath and do that cycle 20 times and than check the carotid artery.
  • If no sign of life call 911 and continue the 5 chest compressions and the 1 breath.
